September 22 - Despised

2 Chronicles 36:16, "But they mocked God's messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy."

As passionate as I am about the Word of God, I find that there are many who not only don't read it, but think it isn't worth the paper that it is written on. There are even Biblical scholars who come so close to heresy, I fear for them, as they create conflict regarding these words.

The Jesus Seminar couches their agenda with talk that they are promoting Biblical Literacy, but they are arrogant enough to believe that they can vote on whether or not the words of Jesus that we find in our scriptures should actually be there.

Hosea says, "My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children." (Hosea 4:6)

In Amos 2:4, we read, "This is what the Lord says: "For every three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not turn back my wrath. Because they have rejected the law of the Lord and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed."

And in Mark 7:9, Jesus says, "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions."

Over and over again, we read of the importance of these words that fill our Bibles. We aren't to simply set our Bibles on a coffee table or in shelf. The bindings should be regularly replaced because they are broken and destroyed by our use. Our hearts should be found in every book of this Bible.

Learn to love the scriptures, to fill your minds and your hearts with the words that come forth. Never allow yourself to ignore or set aside God's Words. Spend time with the Creator of the Universe. Spend time in His Word. Let no one ever accuse you of despising the Law of the Lord.
