March 17 - Seven Angels, Seven Plagues (pt. 2)
Revelation 15:3b-4

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
King of the ages.
Who will not fear you, O Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

This song is filled with quotations from the Old Testament.

Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty.
From Psalm 92:5, "How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts!"

Just and true are your ways
From Deuteronomy 32:4a, "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just."

King of the ages
From 1 Timothy 1:17, "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen."

Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name?
From Psalm 86:9, "All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name."

For you alone are holy.
From Psalm 111:9, "He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever— holy and awesome is his name.

All nations will come and worship before you.
From Psalm 86:9, "All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name."

Your righteous acts have been revealed.
From Psalm 98:2, "The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations."

John has an amazing command of the Old Testament, but he is hearing these words come from voices singing before the Lord! His readers would have heard reassuring words - words that they were comfortable with, words that they sang over and over.
