March 10 – The Three Angels (pt. 1)
Revelation 14:6-7

“Then I saw another angel flying midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth – to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.’”

The word ‘gospel’ means ‘good news.’ The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Good News about Jesus. But, this says that the angel has the ‘eternal gospel’ to proclaim. Is this something different? This is something much more ancient.

Romans 1:18-20, “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.”

That’s just the first part of it, but in essence, godless and wicked men are suppressing the truth of God. They know God, because He has shown Himself to them, but their wickedness suppresses that good news!

The Word of God is always under threat of being silenced or muffled. Eugene Peterson says that every time you close your Bible it is silenced, it is silenced by the sound and fury of daily traffic and we silence it by our ambition and covetousness.

Until this point in history, angels have not been allowed to proclaim the Word of God. That has been a function that only man employs. But, here we are at the end, and the Angels are released to preach the ancient good news of God’s creation!

Psalm 33:6-9, “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.”

Revelation 14:7 tells us that we are worshiping God who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water. From Psalm 33 and here in Revelation 14, we know that the Creator is worthy of our worship.

Revelation 4:11, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

The power of worship fills the Bible. Worship has the power to keep evil at bay, worship brings us into constant contact with our Creator. This is the ancient and eternal gospel – the good news about our God, the One who created all things.
